Because the identifiers are unencrypted and persistent for the life of the tire, they function as digital fingerprints. With inexpensive radio equipment, vehicles can be passively tracked from about 50 meters away.

No hacking. No cameras. Just radio collection.

It’s a classic IoT design flaw: permanent identifiers + no encryption = trackable asset.
